Established 1947 Edward Banan - Safety Director The first E.M.T. class was taught by Captain Bill Woods of the Shadyside Fire Department. A person wanting to become a certified Emergency Medical Tech must have the state required 60 hours of classroom and practical training after which one must pass a two hour exam. Bellaire's potential squad was offered a vehicle from the Bauknecht Funeral Home as well as one from the Shadyside Fire Department. These were both used. The squad's first place of operation
was the Gravel Hill Fire Station. Kenneth Heatherington was the
squad's first captain. |
